VirtualZones glossary of terms

Term Meaning
Zone A rectangular region of a monitor that behaves like its own monitor
Layout A named set of zones for one monitor, such as 25% | 50% | 25%
Built-in layouts 50% | 50%, 33% | 33% | 33%, 25% | 50% | 25% and 100%, added to every new monitor. Editable, and restorable with Restore Defaults
Template A layout-editor button that loads a built-in layout’s shape as a starting point
Current Layout The layout in use on a monitor
Selected screen The monitor whose tab is open in the main window. The layout dropdown, editor, tray Layout menu and cycle hotkey act on it
Confinement Resizing maximized or fullscreen windows into their zone. Turned on with Start and off with Stop
Work area The part of a monitor not covered by the taskbar
Cover taskbar A per-monitor option that makes zones use the full monitor instead of the work area
Drag-to-snap Holding Shift while dragging a window to drop it into the highlighted zone
Move hotkeys Ctrl+Alt+W/A/S/D, which move the focused window between zones and monitors
Share Zone Mirroring one zone into a window called VirtualZones - Share Zone N that meeting and streaming apps can share
Share frame The dashed outline around a shared zone. Only you see it
Zone borders The thin solid lines showing zones while confinement runs
App color The accent color you choose for the UI and zone borders (default purple)
Trial 7 days of full use from first launch
License key The key from your purchase email, entered in the License dialog
Activation Registering a PC against your license key. One device at a time
Deactivate Releasing this PC’s activation so the key can be used elsewhere
Validation The silent license re-check about every 14 days
Grace period Up to 30 days of licensed use without a successful check
Elevated window A window running as administrator. Normal apps, including VirtualZones, can’t move it
Exclusive fullscreen A game mode that bypasses the desktop compositor and can’t be confined. Use borderless windowed instead
